Tin Craft Cups

IMG_0493.JPG

Featured are two tin cups used by hoboes "Mountain Dew" and "Frisco Jack". The hobo-crafted cups were used a means to make money around the jungle when travelers were out on the road. There was a time when copper wire was plentiful, and the raw material was used to create handles for the cups. Most community junkyards were near railroad tracks. When the railroad crews were doing maintenance, excess wire was thrown in the ditch and hoboes would collect the wire and burn off the insulation at their jungle fire. The burning was donw after the food was prepared and excessive smoke didn’t raise concern.
