Rivaling a Swiss army knife, this piece of hobo art was carved from a single piece of wood. Hoboes' ability to carve is most evidenced by their monikers, or nicknames, carved like tradesmarks on railroad sheds. Although most pieces lack identification, it's assumed that the wooden tools were most likely maade for children. The tools were most likely used as a token or tinket that a hobo might carve in exchange for a favor. The craftsmanship featured the individuality and personal style of the carver.
